ACCOUNTING ASSOCIATE II

SUMMARY: The Accounting Associate II is expected to have background and experience in the areas of accounts payable/receivable, payroll, recordkeeping and reporting, and be qualified to perform the full scope of duties using independent judgment in selecting and applying specific references, procedures, sequences, and alternatives to different work situations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Verify, classify, compute and post all accounts payable. 

  • Verify discrepancies and resolve vendor billing issues.

  • Post cash receipts to individual customer’s accounts and tie cash receipts journal to daily deposit each day.

  • Assist with inventory cycle counts.

  • Time card accounting for employees.

  • Assist with the processing of daily punches in the timekeeping system making only necessary changes or corrections to employee punches.

  • Assist with the preparation of paychecks, processing of direct deposits and the calculation and depositing of payroll taxes. 

  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

SUPERVISORY/ REPORTING RESPONSIBILITIES:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

This position reports to the Accounting Manager

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate Degree in Accounting and/ or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting or Finance with a minimum Fifteen (15) semester hours in Accounting.

  • Three (3) years of full-time experience performing accounting duties in an office environment.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with a strong knowledge of Excel. 

  • Experience with Peachtree or other accounting software preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to work with accuracy. Excellent verbal and written communication and problem-solving skills.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

None required.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Abilities in computerized accounting software and Windows environment. Ability to work in a team oriented fast-paced demanding work environment. Meet scheduled deadlines, and multi-task
