TR Toppers is a national food processing company located in Pueblo, CO.  We specialize in processing name brand candies and other types of toppings and inclusions that are used in a variety of food products, such as ice creams and cakes, and shipped throughout the company.  We are a progressive family owned business and we are rapidly growing.

SUMMARY:

The position is responsible for ensuring laboratory systems are met and enforcing the policies of the Laboratory Management System within the In-house laboratory. The individual will work independently, be able to multitask, be detail oriented, and have good decision/problem solving skills based on the principles of the type of testing being performed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Media preparation.
• Autoclave operation.
• Proper handling procedures and aseptic technique.
• Preparation of raw material samples for analysis.
• Perform dilution(s) of samples as required.
• Perform routine cleaning and quality checks for equipment.
• Perform routine cleaning of work areas. 
• Maintain inventory levels of laboratory materials.
• Documentation of work and maintenance of laboratory records.
• Plating of samples for microbiological attribute testing.
• Use of molecular detection technology for detection of pathogens.
• Maintenance of the laboratory management system.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc.) from an Accredited College or University in Life Sciences or a closely related field (Microbiology preferred)
• The successful candidate must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
• Experience in assembling and operating various machinery in a food production industry or similar industry

WORK SCHEDULE:

40 hours a week – Monday to Friday – Day Shift - (Must be flexible and able to work weekends and overtime to meet the needs of the - company).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Recent work experience performing quality control in food production facility or like industry is highly desirable.
• One year of laboratory experience.
• At least 1 course in Microbiology with accompanying laboratory

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY REQUIRED FOR BEING SUCCESSFUL IN POSITION:

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instruction furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, and crouch, and taste or smell to perform standard lab procedures.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
